HOUSING IN THE CITY                                                             ARPL 502 Architectural Design II

                                                                                                                                                                                                       Professor John Yanik

"There is a danger when every building has to look spectacular, to look like it is changing the world.

I don't care how a building looks, if it means something, not to architects, but to people who use it"

                                                                                                                                      David Chipperfield

Background

The program envisions the development concept of a new model for middle income housing of a quality and character that will afford attractive living in a high density urban environment not only for young singles and couples, but also for families with one or two childre. There is a grat scarcity of appartament buildings of this kind in the city today princiapally because oh high land and building costs and the costs of providing the kind of amenities that would make these buidlings attractive to families with children. Strategies for providing viable and attractive retail on site will be on of the keys to the building's financial feasibility
